Effingham Junior High School picked up two volleyball victories Saturday against Mattoon.

 

The Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade contest, 25-9, 25-12 and improved to 10-2. Alyssa Martin and McKenzie Love had two kills each. Natalie Armstrong led in aces with 10. Berkley Pullen had three assists.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham won 25-21, 25-6 and is now 8-3 on the season.

Bria Beals and Mya Harvey led the Mustangs in kills with five each. Hannah Thompson had 15 assists. Layni Frey led in aces with five. Sidney Donaldson had five digs.

At Taylorville

Teutopolis fell to Taylorville in junior high action Saturday.

Taylorville claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-12, 25-21. T-town was led by Olivia Wittenmeyer and Olivia Wermert with two digs each. The Shoes drop to 6-6 on the season.

In the eighth-grade match, Taylorville was a 25-20, 25-20 winner. Claresa Ruholl had two digs for the Shoes while Sara Zumbahlen had five assists and Paige Swingler two kills. T-town is now 5-7.

At Shelbyville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City dropped both matches to Shelbyville Saturday.

Shelbyville claimed the seventh-grade match, 25-14, 25-7. Ryleigh Sarver and Averie Vaughn had three points each. Keaira Arnold led in digs with three. Lena Burgess had one block.

"I was so proud of how the seventh-graders played today," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "They had a 90% serve rate, which was one of their best. It also shows how well Shelbyville received the serves. Their first game was particularly strong and was one of the best that they have played to date."

In the eighth-grade match, Shelbyville won 25-17, 25-17.

Kyleigh Linder had four points, two kills and six blocks for CHBC. Macee Rodman had two kills and three digs. Addison Wasson had three digs. Birgen Schlanser had two assists.

"Even though the girls struggled with communication a bit, they played very well against Shelbyville," said Coach Jefferies. "They fought hard and we saw some of their best plays of the season. They were just outplayed by an excellent team."

Jasper County remained unbeaten in eighth-grade action with a 25-12, 25-15 win over Casey-Westfield Saturday.

A. Stanley led the winners in aces with five and blocks with two. S. Kinder had three kills. A. Mulvey led in assists with nine. I. Garcia, M. Reynolds and K. Martin had three digs each.

Jasper County improved to 9-0.

In seventh-grade play, Jasper County was a 25-14, 25-23 winner and is now 8-1.

I. Meinhart and A. Reich led in kills with five each. I. Meinhart had four assists. K. Holder led in digs with three. K. Deckard had seven aces.
