Altamont Claims First-Ever Volleyball Sectional Crown

WINDSOR -- Altamont High School is on to super-sectional action after claiming its first-ever sectional volleyball crown Wednesday evening.

The Indians won the Class 1A Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional downing the host squad for the third time this season.

Altamont won the opener 25-16 then came back to take the match, 25-12. Leading the Indians were Rachel Jackman with nine kills, Ellie McManaway with 20 assists, Kassidy Pemberton with five digs and Taylor Mette with three aces.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by  Mackinzee Reynolds with seven kills, Hannah Hayes with 11 assists and Jessica Rauch with five digs.

"It's hard seeing the season end but we have so much to be proud of this season," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "To lose to a team like Altamont is nothing to hang our heads over. They are strong and very quick and we wish them a clear road all the way to Redbird Arena so they can experience what we have.

"It will take a bit to get past the hurt of losing but in time we'll be proud we made it to the sectional championship."

Altamont, sporting a 30-7-1 record, heads on to the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Super-sectional Friday to take on Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, a winner over Woodlawn Wednesday, 25-22, 25-20. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
