Area Teams Advance To Seventh-Grade Sectionals

Several area teams advanced to sectional competition in seventh-grade volleyball by winning regionals Thursday.

Effingham St. Anthony captured its own Class 7-2A Regional with a victory over Arcola.

The Bullpups won in two sets, 25-21, 25-17.

St. Anthony now advances to the Paris Crestwood Sectional Monday to face North Clay (Louisville) at 6 p.m. for the right to advance to the State Tournament.

 

Class 2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

North Clay (Louisville) claimed the championship of this regional but had to go three sets to do so Thursday.

North Clay won the opener 25-23 but Edwards County battled back for a 25-17 win. North Clay then took the match, 25-16.

North Clay will now face Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. Monday in the Paris Crestwood Sectional. The winner advances to the Class 2A State Tournament.

 

Class 7-3A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Shelbyville Moulton came out on top in the Class 7-3A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional Thursday.

Shelbyville Moulton ended Cumberland's season by 25-23, 25-20 counts.

Moulton advances to its own sectional where it will face Robinson Nuttall who won its own regional over Casey-Westfield, 25-20, 25-14.

The pair will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday for the right to advance to the Class 7-3A State Tournament.

 

Class 7-1A Oakland Lake Crest Regional

Hume Shiloh claimed the championship of this regional Thursday.

Hume Shiloh downed Findlay Okaw Valley, 25-18, 25-13.

Hume Shiloh advances to the Sigel St  Michael Sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Newton St. Thomas. St. Thomas won the St. Michael Regional Tuesday.

 

Class 7-4A Effingham  Regional

Effingham claimed its own regional Tuesday and will head to the Mattoon Sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. to face Urbana.

Urbana won the Rantoul Eater Regional Thursday evening over Champaign Jefferson, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20.

 

At Effingham

Trinity Lutheran downed Effingham  in three sets of eighth-grade volleyball regular season action Thursday.

Effingham won the opener 25-22 but Trinity Lutheran came back to win the match with back-to-back set wins, 25-17, 25-8. Effingham dropped to 19-3 on the season before hosting the regional Saturday.

Mattoon will meet Stephen Decatur at 10 a.m. with Charleston against Decatur Jefferson at 11:15.

Effingham will then face the winner of the first match at 12:30 p.m. and Mount Zion will take on the winner of the second match at 1:45.
