Effingham moved into the championship match of its own Class 4A Girls Volleyball Regional Saturday.

In the opening matches, Mattoon defeated Stephen Decatur, 25-8, 25-16 while Mount Zion won over Decatur Jefferson, 25-7, 25-11.

Effingham then faced Mattoon and won, 25-13, 25-21. The Mustangs are now 15-6 on the season.

In the fourth match, Charleston won over Mount Zion, 25-23, 27-25.

Effingham will now face Charleston for the regional championship Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Class 7-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham -- Katt, 3 kills, 1 assist, 3 aces, 2 digs; Boone, 4 kills, 7 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs; Borton, 5 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs; Kreke, 2 aces; Schoonover, 1 ace; McCoy, 2 assists, 1 dig; Ballman, 3 kills, 4 aces, 3 digs; O'Dell, 1 kill, 5 assists, 1 ace, 7 digs

 

Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City opened this regional with a victory over Altamont Saturday. CHBC won the opener, 25-19 before Altamont came back with a 25-12 count.

CHBC then claimed the match, 25-17 and will now face St. Anthony at 5 p.m. today in second round play.

Arcola won over Paris Crestwood, 25-10, 25-15. Arcola advances to meet Neoga at 6:15 p.m. today.

The winners advance to the championship match Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Newton St. Thomas was the lone area qualifier from the Sigel St. Michael Regional Saturday.

In the opener, Martinsville defeated Grayville, 25-17, 25-19.

The second match went to West Salem over Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-11, 24-26, 25-22.

Newton St. Thomas then downed Martinsville, 25-2, 25-7.

West Salem won over Sigel St. Michael, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19.

Newton St. Thomas will now meet West Salem at 6 p.m. Tuesday for the regional championship.

 

Class 7-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

North Clay (Louisville) will be playing for the championship of this regional after winning Saturday.

Oblong downed South Central, 16-25, 25-21, 25-21 in the opening match.

Hutsonville/Palestine then won over Dieterich, 25-11, 26-24.

Edwards County defeated Oblong, 25-8, 25-6 in the semifinals while North Clay won over Hutsonville, 25-21, 25-21.

North Clay faces Edwards County at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

 

Class 7-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Two matches were contested at the Robinson Nuttall Regional Saturday.

Marshall defeated Paris Mayo. Mayo won the opener 26-24 but Marshall came back with 26-24, 25-18 wins for the match.

Jasper County then downed Lawrenceville Parkview, 25-21, 25-14.

Today's matches have Robinson Nuttall against Marshall at 6 p.m. followed by Jasper County taking on Casey-Westfield at 7:15.

The winners then will advance to the title contest Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Jasper County -- Schafer, 6 aces, 4 assists, 2 digs; Zumbahlen, 6 aces, 1 kill; Finn, 1 ace, 2 kills, 2 assists; Grove, 4 kills, 1 dig; Kessler, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 dig; Barthelemy, 2 kills, 2 assists

 

Class 7-1A Oakland Lake Crest Regional

This regional begins tonight with two area teams.

Windsor faces Chrisman Scottland at 5 p.m. while Stewardson-Strasburg goes up against Oakland Lake Crest at 7:30.

The middle match will feature Mattoon St. John's against Hume Shiloh at 6:15.

The winners advance to matches Tuesday at 6 and 7:15 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

This regional also begins today with three matches on tap.

St. Elmo/Brownstown meets Arthur at 5:30 followed by Cumberland against Sullivan at 6:30 and Teutopolis facing Tuscola East Prairie at 7:30.

The winners advance to semifinal round play Tuesday.
