IUKA -- Altamont Lutheran advanced to the SIJHSAA Class S State Volleyball Tournament with a victory Friday in the Iuka Regional.

Altamont Lutheran downed Patoka in the championship match of the Iuka Regional, 25-22, 25-16.

Lutheran advances to face Rome at the Class S State Touirnament at Herrin High School Saturday. If Altamont Lutheran wins the opener, it will advance to a 2 p.m. contest.

 

Class 8-2A State Tournament

South Central saw its stay at the Class 2A State Tournament at Auburn High School end with a loss Saturday.

South Central fell to Mason City Illini Central, 25-10, 25-19 and ends with a 24-2 mark.

In other matches, Lewistown defeated Seneca, 25-9, 25-15 while Ashland A-C Central downed Kewanee Wethersfield, 25-21, 26-24 and Champaign St. Matthew beat Milford, 25-10, 25-20.

In the semifinals, Mason City Illini Central defeated Lewistown, 25-13, 24-26, 25-23 while Champaign St. Matthew downed Ashland A-C Central, 25-13, 25-14.

Champaign St. Matthew then defeated Mason City Illini Central, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 to win the state championship while Lewistown claimed third place by beating Ashland A-C Central, 25-14, 25-11.

Class 8-2A State Tournament

South Central -- Stewart, 4 points; McKinney, 16 points; Fangmeier, 5 aces, 11 points; Clark, 4 aces, 7 points; Horn, 4 points; Wallace, 1 ace, 2 points

 

Class 8-3A State Tournament

Cumberland dropped its opening round match to Tolono Unity in the 8-3A State Tournament at Tolono Unity Junior High School Saturday.

Cumberland lost to Tolono Unity, 25-15, 25-11 to finish the season with a 25-1 record.

In other matches, Princeville beat Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 27-25, 25-12 while Eureka won over Wilmington, 25-9, 25-9. Pleasant Plains then beat Pana, 25-12, 21-25, 25-21.

In the semifinals, Eureka beat Princeville, 25-15, 25-14 while Tolono Unity won over Pleasant Plains, 25-15, 16-25, 25-22.

In the championship match, Eureka downed Tolono Unity, 25-23, 12-25, 25-23. In the third place contest, Princeville beat Pleasant Plains, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21.

Class 8-3A State Tournament

Cumberland -- Thornton, 2 points; Mitchell, 1 point; Ayers, 1 ace, 2 points; Tolen, 5 points; Robinson, 1 point

 

Class 8-4A State Tournament

Effingham's stellar season came to a close in opening round play at the 8-4A State Tournament at Mount Zion High School Saturday.

The Mustangs fell to Morton. Effingham won the opener 25-19 but Morton came back with 25-21, 25-17 counts for the victory. Effingham ended the season with a 20-5 record.

In other matches, Channahon downed Arlington Heights South, 25-10, 25-23 while Rochester beat Flossmoor Parker, 25-13, 25-5. Rochester then beat Homer Glen Homer, 25-21, 17-25, 25-17.

In the championship match, Rochester beat Channahon, 25-10, 25-19. The third place match went to Homer Glen Homer over Morton, 25-23, 25-20.

Class 8-4A State Tournament

Effingham -- Ballman, 1 kill, 1 ace 17 digs; Budde, 12 assists, 13 digs; Althoff, 5 digs; Sowell, 4 kills, 3 blocks, 1 dig; Belcher, 3 kills, 2 blocks; Angel, 3 kills, 12 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs; Kull, 2 aces, 3 digs; Chrappa, 13 kills, 1 assist, 18 digs; Walls, 5 kills, 1 assist, 6 digs
