St. Elmo Advances To Sectional Championship Match

LEBANON -- St. Elmo High School will be playing for the Class 1A Lebanon Sectional volleyball championship Thursday evening after picking up a victory Tuesday.

St. Elmo downed Woodlawn in two sets, 25-14, 25-13. S. Feezel led the Eagles with a whopping 14 kills and three aces. P. Manley was the leader in assists with 22. G. Moore had 10 digs.

The Eagles (28-9) will now face host Lebanon for the championship Thursday at 7 p.m. Lebanon was a 25-21, 25-22 winner over Grayville in the opening match Tuesday.

Class 1A Stew-Stras Sectional

Unfortunately, host Stewardson-Strasburg saw its season come to an end in its own sectional Tuesday evening.

The Comets fell to Kansas Tri-County 25-13, 25-19 to end the season at 22-16.

"Sad to see the season end like this, but not ashamed of who we were beat by," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Tri-County has a really nice defense with quick girls who could reach anything. We had a hard time finding the holes. Our passing was an issue in game one but it got better in game two. This has to be addressed more for next season. We beat our goal of more wins this season."

Stew-Stras was led by Brittani Tabbert with four kills, Kendall Knop with eight digs and Kelsie Walden and Baylee Quast with three assists each.

Arthur-Lovington was a winner over Broadlands Heritage 25-17, 25-20. Kansas Tri-County will now face Arthur-Lovington Thursday at 7 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Class 2A Cumberland Sectional

Casey-Westfield fell in the opening match of the Cumberland Sectional  Tuesday evening. Carlinville won the opening contest 25-19 and Casey-Westfield came back with a 25-15 victory. Carlinville then claimed the match 25-23.

In the second contest, Pana downed Vandalia 25-16, 22-25, 25-19. Pana faces Carlinville Thursday at 7 p.m. for the championship.

Class 3A Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Sectional

Mattoon continues to pick up victories, this one in the second match of the Sacred Heart-Griffin Sectional.

The Green Wave downed Rochester 25-18, 27-25. In the opening contest, Jacksonville downed Bethalto Civic Memorial 25-9, 25-12.

Jacksonville and Mattoon square off for the sectional title Thursday at 7 p.m.
