Bulldogs Fall To Olney; Area Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Olney and the Tigers left the Enlow Center with victories in both varsity and junior varsity volleyball play Monday evening.

In the varsity match, Olney won in two games, 25-20, 25-23. Haylee Mathis led the Bulldogs in kills with seven, assists with 11 and digs with 12. She also added a block. Kassy Dammerman had 12 digs. Lauren Schmidt and Rachael Schultz had one ace each.

In the junior varsity match, Olney won 25-20, 24-26, 25-18.

Dieterich edged Cowden-Herrick 29-27 in the opening game then downed the Hornets 25-12 to win the varsity match.

Tori Hardiek led the winners in points with 10 and aces with three. Candace Niemerg had 14 digs and 13 kills. Madison Boerngen led in blocks with two and Shelby Wendling led in assists with 15.

Dieterich also nabbed the junior varsity match going three games, 25-23, 25-27, 25-19.

South Central hosted Beecher City and claimed a victory over the Eagles.

The Cougars won 25-15, 25-13. Beecher City was led by Kirsten Buzzard in digs with eight, kills with three and blocks with three. Kirby Herrmann had one ace. The Eagles drop to 0-23.

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran picked up a victory in three games over Brownstown.

Christ Our Rock won the opener 25-19 before Brownstown came back with a 25-19 score. Christ Our Rock then claimed the victory 25-13.

Brownstown was led by Bethany Oberlink and Courtney Howard with five kills each. Howard led in blocks with three. Brittany Kistler had three aces and 10 digs. Michaela Walk had eight assists.

Teutopolis defeated Centralia in three games. The Wooden Shoes won the opener 25-19 but Centralia came back with a 25-23 victory. T-town went out in a close 25-23 final.

Natalie Summers led the Shoes in kills with seven. Lucy Niemerg had three aces. Michelle Schimidt led in blocks with two. Morgan Greer had 10 digs as did Summers. Kaitlyn Ruholl led in assists with 12. T-town improves to 5-18.

T-town also nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-17, 26-24.
