Stew-Stras Remains Unbeaten

Stewardson-Strasburg remained unbeaten in high school volleyball play but had a battle with  Altamont Thursday evening to keep that status.

Altamont picked up the first game win 25-20. Stew-Stras battled back, taking the second win in a close 25-23 game. The Comets then took the match 25-13 to improve to 3-0 in the National Trail Conference, 4-0 overall.

"I'm so proud of the girls tonight," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They never gave up. It was an intense game. Game one we played very well but Altamont just played better. Game two we started off with a six point lead but then struggled on serve receive. We fought back and came out on top.

"In game three, Brittani Tabbert had a seven point serving streak and then Mariah Tabbert finished off the last four serves to win the game. I couldn't ask for a better group of girls."

M. Tabbert led the squad in aces with three plus had nine kills. Kelsie Walden had 30 assists. Kendall Knop and Elizabeth Gratz shared the dig lead with 14 each. B. Tabbert had 14 kills and 12 digs.

Altamont was led by White with nine kills and three aces. Ledbetter had nine digs and Kopplin led in stuff blocks with three. The Indians drop to 0-1 in the conference, 1-5 overall.

In junior varsity play, Altamont picked up the victory 25-19, 25-14. The two squads split two games in frehsman/sophomore action with Altamont winning 21-12 and Stew-Stras winning 21-17.
