Bulldogs Are Boys, Girls Track Winners

Effingham St. Anthony tallied victories in both the boys and girls track meets Monday.

In the boys meet, the Bulldogs scored 177.5 points followed by Neoga 69, Windsor/Stewardson/Strasburg 24.5, Brownstown/St. Elmo 22 and Dieterich 14.

St. Anthony's Max Sager aided the Bulldogs with three first place finishes in the meet. Sager won the 100 in 11.6 seconds, the 400 in 53.7 and the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches.

The Bulldogs put together five more individual first place finishes and claimed three of the four relay events.

Griffen Elder won the 800 in 2:12.6 minutes. Conlan Walsh was a winner in the 300 hurdles in 44.5 seconds.

Max Dong captured the shot with a heave of 36 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Taylor Smith was a winner in the discus with a throw of 131-2. Kevin Gonzalez won the triple jump at 34 feet, 6 inches.

St. Anthony won the 800 relay in 1:58.1. Team members were Connor Eggers, Sam Deters, Tigran Tokatyan and Adrian Bustamante. St. Anthony took the 1600 in 4:01.1.  Aidan Braunecker, Elder, Walsh and Giovanni Bucio were on the team. The 3200 relay went to the Bulldogs in 9:56.1.  Runners were Elder, Braunecker, Walsh and James Emmerich.

Neoga claimed four first place finishes. The Indians' Paci McClure won the 200 in 24.0 seconds. Lucas Keller captured the 1600 in 6:00.8. Dontye Perry won the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. The 400 relay team of Brayden Neece, Perry, McClure and Kyle Peters won in 48.8 seconds.

The only other winners were Dieterich's Jack Bloemer who claimed the 3200 in 12:25.5 minutes and Brownstown/St. Elmo's Lowell Wilhour who went over the 110 hurdles in 18.3 seconds.

In the girls meet, St. Anthony was a winner with 125 points followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo 96, Neoga 43 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 8.

The Bulldogs finished with seven first place finishes while Brownstown/St. Elmo had nine. The Bulldogs won the meet with 10 seconds, a third and three fourths.

Five different tracksters won individual titles. Ada Rozene claimed the 800 in 2:55.5 minutes. Emma Helmink won the 1600 in 6:54.5. Elle Vahling was a winner in the shot with a throw of 28 feet, 2 inches and Anna Greene won the pole vault at 8 feet, 6 inches. Grace Niebrugge was a winner in the triple jump at 28 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

The Bulldogs won the 1600 relay in 5:08.5 minutes. Taylor Miller, Rilie Willenborg, Helmink and Rozene were members of the team. St. Anthony also nabbed the 3200 relay in 12:39.2. Rozene, Willenborg, Miller and Helmink competed.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had seven individual titles. Laney Baldrige and Katie Berner claimed two each. Baldrige won the 100 in 14.2 seconds and the 200 in 29.1. Berner was a winner in both hurdle events. She won the 100 in 18.1 seconds and the 300 in 55.7.

Cordelia Lytle was a winner in the 400 in 1:07.7 minutes. Sydney Stine captured the discus at 98 feet, 5 inches. Addie McWhorter won the high jump at 5 feet.

The Bombers won the 400 relay in 59.0 seconds. Team members were Lytle, Jaydin Huddlestun, Berner and Baldrige. They also claimed the 800 relay in 2:08.8 minutes. Members of the team were Emma McNabb, Bethany Schoenhoff, Huddlestun and Baldrige.
