Area Track Teams Compete at EIU Indoor Invitational

CHARLESTON -- Six area high school boys and girls track teams competed at the Eastern Illinois University Indoor Track Invitational during the past weekend.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jadon Robertson did well with a first place finish and two seconds. Robertson won the 60 hurdles in 8.37 seconds, took second in the high jump at 6 feet, 3 1/4 inches and second in the long jump at 20 feet, 10 1/2 inches.

His teammate Daniel Lucas claimed first place in the shot with a throw of 57 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

The Newton girls team claimed five 10th place and above results while the boys squad had four.

The girls 800 relay team finished second in 1:55.47 minutes. The 1600 relay team took fifth in 4:30.61. Rylea Borgic was sixth in the 400 in 1:06.00 minutes. Laney Hemrich was ninth in the 60m in 8.40 seconds and Elly Bennett finished 10th in the pole vault at 8 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

For the boys, Jacob Wickham was third in the shot with a heave of 49 feet, 3 3/4 inches. The 3200 relay team finished third in 8:51.31 minutes. Owen Mahaffey was fourth in the 800 in 2:08.66 minutes. Luis Zavala took 10th in the 400 in 55.39 seconds.

Effingham St. Anthony's Allison Geen finished fifth in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 1/4 inches. For the boys, Kevin Gonzalez was seventh in the triple jump at 37 feet, 7 1/4 inches. Max Sager was eighth in the 400 in 54.85 seconds and Griffin Elder took ninth in the 3200 in 10:53.36 minutes.

Effingham's Kayleigh Koester finished ninth in the 400 in 1:07.11 minutes. Jessica Larson was 10th in the 800 in 2:38.41. The best finish for the boys was Garrett Wagoner 14th in the 3200 in 11:11.41.

Teutopolis had third and fourth place finishes for the girls. Kaitlyn Vahling took both those places, with third in the 200 in 27.79 seconds and fourth in the 60m in 8.18 seconds.

Kolton Tedrick was the highest finisher for the Newton boys with 15th in the shot with a throw of 41 feet, 5 1/4 inches.

Altamont also competed. RayLynn Myers had the best finish for the girls with 15th in the triple jump at 24 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Tristan Rhodes took 15th for the boys in the 60 hurdles in 9.89 seconds.
