Eastern Illinois Picks up Five First Place Finishes

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field picked up five first place finishes as the Panthers wrapped up competition at the SIU Spring Classic Saturday in Carbondale.

Jade Riebold won the women’s pole vault as three Panthers scored points in the event for the women’s team that placed fifth overall.  Riebold cleared 14”.  Abigail Schmitz was fourth at 12’0.50” and Annemarie Reid was sixth at 11’8.50”, which ranks sixth on the EIU career list.

Britney Whitehead won the women’s steeplechase with a time of 10:33.12.

David Johansson won the men’s javelin with a throw of 204’9”.  His throw ranks seventh on the EIU career list.

Bryce Basting and Sean Wiggan posted first place finishes on the track for the Panther men as they finished fourth in team scoring.  Basting won the 1500m with a time of 3:51.84.  Wiggan won the 800m with a time of 1:51.69.  Pablo Ramirez scored points with an eighth place finish in the 1500m at 3:59.10.  Ephraim Dorsey scored points with an eighth place finish in the 800m at 1:53.80.

Newton graduate Maura Cummins and Condia Smith scored points for the women in field events.  Cummins was third in the high jump at 5’4.25”.  Smith was second in the javelin at 117’10”.

Jalisa Paramore and Stephanie Peisker scored points for the women on the track.  Paramore was second in the 100m hurdles at 13.89. Peisker was third in the 5K with a time of 17:37.44.  Her time ranks ninth on the EIU career list.

Sodiu Alliu, Eric Gordon and Danny Harris scored points for the men in field events.  Alliu was fifth in the triple jump at 45’2.50”.  Gordon was sixth in the pole vault at 15’9”.  Harris was fourth in the high jump at 6’4”.

Joe Calio, Victor Delatorre, Calvin Edwards and Daniel Trevor scored points for the men on the track.  Calio was third in the steeplechase while Delatorre was eighth.  Calio’s time was 9:17.84 followed by Delatorre at 9:50.55.  Edwards scored points in two events placing sixth in the 100m and second in the 200m.  His 100m time was 10.92 while his 200m time was 21.57.  Trevor was sixth in the 400m hurdles at 53.68.

Both of EIU’s 4x400 relay teams placed fifth.  The women’s team included Cummins, Janessa Clay, Katie Ryan and Cassidy Strohl.  The men’s team included Edwards, Wiggan, Dominique Hall and Trevor.
