EIU Hosts Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships This Weekend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois track and field will host the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday at Lantz Fieldhouse in Charleston.  Competition begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.  EIU has won four straight indoor OVC Championships on both the men’s and women’s side.

The Panthers men’s team enters the championship weekend with ten athletes ranked first or second in their respective events.  The EIU women have seven women that enter the weekend ranked first or second in the OVC.  In addition to individuals the EIU men’s 4x400 relay and distance medley relay rank second in the OVC.

Calvin Edwards, Bryce Basting, Dominique Hall and Mick Viken are all currently first in the OVC in their respective events.  Edwards is first in the 200m.  Basting is first in the 800m.  Hall is first in the 60m hurdles.  Viken is first in the pole vault.

EIU has the first and second place marks in the 800m, 60m hurdles and pole vault.  Sean Wiggan joins Basting in the 800m ranking second.  Lamarr Pottinger joins Hall in the 60m hurdles ranking second.  Eric Gordon joins Viken in the pole vault ranking second.

Basting ranks second in the mile joined by Jake Mitchell and Cody Boarman as athletes currently ranking second in their events heading into the championships.  Mitchell is second in the 60m dash.  Boarman is second in the 400m.

On the women’s side Erika Ramos, Jalisa Paramore, Maura Cummins and Jade Riebold all enter the weekend ranking first in their events.  Ramos is first in the mile.  Paramore is first in the 60m hurdles.  Cummins is first in the high jump.  Riebold is first in the pole vault.

Ramos ranks second in the mile joined by Britney Whitehead and Elizabeth Dole as athletes currently ranking second in their events heading into the championships.  Whitehead is second in the 3K.  Dole is second in the 5K.
