Millikin Track Competes at DePauw

DECATUR, Ill.—The Millikin Indoor Track and Field team competed at the DePauw University Invitational in Greencastle, Ind. on Feb. 9.  The Big Blue men came in seventh place out of 20 teams while the Millikin women were seventh out of 15 teams.

Millikin senior LeAnn Spesard (Paris, H.S.) won the Shot Put in 14.06 meters (46-1.50) breaking her own Millikin school record.  Spesard was also first in the Women’s Weight Throw at 14.41 meters (47-3.50).

Millikin sophomore Kindra Emberton (Niantic, Sangamon Valley H.S.) won the 5000 Meters Run in 18:23.40 and was second in the 3000 Meters in 10:43.12.

Big Blue freshman Jamie Michl (Newton, H.S.) won the 600 Meters in 1:39.22, which is the second fastest time on the Millikin Indoor Track performance list.

Sarah Bradley (Decatur, MacArthur H.S.) was sixth in the 5000 Meters in 20:08.43, which places her seventh on the Millikin Indoor Track Top 10 Performance list.  She was eighth in the 1000 Meters in 3:24.15, which is the seventh fastest Millikin Indoor time.

In men’s action, Millikin freshman Patrick Tharp (Decatur, Mt. Zion H.S.) set a new Millikin record in the 5000 Meters in 15:40.23.  He finished in ninth place in today’s competition.  Tharp was sixth in the 1000 meters in 2:45.28, which placed him number eight all-time.

Kevin Martin (Bradley, Bradley Bourbonnais H.S.) set a new Big Blue record in the 1000 Meters in 2:37.48 finishing in third place in the event.

Freshman Alex Kemp (Tuscola, H.S.) was third in the 200 Meters in 22.93 seconds.

Drew Bandelow (Willard, Mo., H.S.) was fourth in the 600 Meters in 1:26.89 and Kyle Shartzer was seventh at 1:27.53.  Bandelow’s time put him number three on the Millikin Indoor Track Top 10 Performance list and Shartzer moved into number four.

Millikin was second in the Men’s 4x200 Relay in 1:33.39.  The team of Ibn Powell (Lynwood, Thornton Fractional South H.S.), Dimitri Dunner (Markham, Hillcrest H.S., Richard Long (St. Louis, Mo., Webster Groves H.S.) and Kemp moves into ninth on the Millikin Indoor Track
Performance list.

Justin Brooks (Bloomington, H.S.) was fourth in the Triple Jump in 12.96 meters (42-6.25).
