Defending Champ Murray Ousted At U.S. Open

(Flushing Meadows, NY) -- Defending champion Andy Murray is out of the U.S. Open.  The third-seeded Brit was ousted in straight sets by ninth-seeded Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in Thursday's quarterfinal match.  Murray smashed his racquet in frustration after the first set. Murray says Stan Wawrinka was on his game.

The 28-year-old Wawrinka now moves on to his first career Grand Slam semifinal. His semifinal opponent is Novak Djokovic, who earned a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 triumph over 21st-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny. Second-seeded Rafael Nadal will meet eighth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the other semifinal. Serena Williams headlines Friday's women's semifinals at the U.S. Open. The top-seeded defending champion takes on China's Li Na. Victoria Azarenka plays Flavia Pennetta in the other semi.
