St. Anthony Captures Tennis Victory

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony tallied an 8-2 victory over Champaign St. Thomas More in high school tennis competition Thursday.

Joey Trupiano claimed the No. 2 singles win, 6-3, 6-2 while Alec Hakman won at No. 3. He lost the opening set 6-2 but came back with 6-4, 10-8 tallies for the victory.

Jackson Schultz won at No. 4, 6-4, 5-4. Connor Eggars battled to the win at No. 5, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Ethan Karolewicz was a winner at No. 6, 2-0, 2-0.

In doubles play, Manaye Mossman and Trupiano combined to win the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-4, 6-4.

The Bulldogs won't be back in action until Tuesday when they play host to Robinson in a 4:30 p.m. match.

At Champaign

Singles

No. 1 -- Madigan (STM) defeated Mossman (SA), 6-3, 4-6, 10-6

No. 2 -- Trupiano (SA) defeated Devocelle (STM), 6-3, 6-2

No. 3 -- Hakman (SA) defeated Kirby (STM), 2-6, 6-4, 10-8

No. 4 -- Schultz (SA) defeated Wu (STM), 6-4, 5-4

No. 5 -- Eggars (SA) defeated Rentschlser (STM), 6-3, 7-6 (4)

No. 6 -- Karolewicz (SA) defeated Daley (STM), 2-0, 2-0

Doubles

No. 1 -- Mossman-Trupiano (SA) defeated Madigan-Kirby (STM), 6-4, 6-4

No. 2 -- Devocelle-Rentschler (STM) defeated Karolewicz-Trupiano (SA), 6-1, 4-6, 10-8
