EHS Edges St. Anthony, T-town Falls To Mattoon

Effingham High School edged Effingham St. Anthony 5-4 in tennis action Thursday evening.

St. Anthony's Cole Buehnerkemper, Frank Jansen and Scott Rentfrow captured the top three singles spots. However, Effingham's Wyatt Wohltman, Parth Maheshwari and Jason Wohltman were winners in the No. 3 through No. 6 positions to knot the score at 3-3.

In doubles play, St. Anthony's Buehnerkemper and Rentfrow combined to win 6-0, 6-4. But the Hearts took the next two doubles as Minor and Maheshwari went 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and W. Wohltman and Nick Pellman won 6-1, 6-1 to pull out the team victory.

The Hearts are now 6-0 on the season.

At Effingham

No. 2 -- Frank Jansen (SA) defeated Isaac Foreman (E), 3-6, 7-5, 6-4

No. 6 -- Jason Wohltman (E) defeated Alex Niebrugge (SA), 6-2, 7-5

No. 2 -- Minor-Maheshwari (E) defeated F. Jansen-J. Niebrugge (SA), 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

No. 3 -- W. Wohltman-Nick Pellman (E) defeated A. Niebrugge-L. Jansen (SA), 6-1, 6-1

At Mattoon

The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis traveled to Mattoon and fell to the Green Wave, 6-3 Thursday.

The Green Wave claimed three singles wins and won all three doubles matches. T-town captured the top singles spot as Kyle Brumleve was a winner. T-town's Andy Mersman claimed No. 4 and Mitch Meinhart took No. 5.

"This was a great test for us," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "We were in all four matches but just couldnt' pull off enough wins. It was a fun match."

The Shoes suffered their first loss and drop to 6-1.

At Mattoon
