T-town, St. A, EHS Tennis Players Advance To State

Robinson won the sectional championship with 26 points followed by Teutopolis 24, Mattoon 16, St. Anthony 14, Effingham 8, Casey-Westfield 6, Paris 6, Hillsboro 4, Charleston 2 and Shelbyville 0.
Advancing in singles were Robinson's Lisa Henry who won the sectional title, St. Anthony's Emily Kowalke who finished second, T-town's Grace Hoene who finished third and fourth-place finisher Kendall Matthews of Paris.
In the first place singles, Lisa Henry defeated Madison Mapes (Effingham), 6-2, 6-0, Annelise Overmeyer (Mattoon), 6-1, 6-0, Kendall Matthews (Paris), 6-2, 6-3 and Emily Kowalke (St. Anthony), 6-3, 6-3.
In the second place singles, Kowalke won over Emily Sherwood (Casey-Westfield), 6-0, 6-5, Caroline Davis (Mattoon), 6-4, 6-1 and Grace Hoene (Teutopolis), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 before losing to Henry, 6-3, 6-3.
In the third place singles, Hoene won over Hoover Ryder (Hillsboro), 6-0, 6-0 and Zharina Stephens (Robinson), 6-2 6-3 before losing to Kowalke, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and then downing Kendall Mathews (Paris), 6-0, 6-3
In the fourth place singles, Mathews defeated Ali Adams (St. Anthony), 6-3, 6-2 and Emma Mason (Casey-Westfield), 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 before losing to Henry, 6-2, 6-3 and Hoene, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, T-town's Macy Probst and Isabelle Hemmen were the champions. The duo defeated Lyla Long-Hutton (Charleston), 6-0, 6-0, Alana Herr-Sydney Harmon (Robinson), 6-0, 6-0 Lydia Kull-Alia Woomer (Effingham), 6-1, 6-4 and Lucy List-Annie List (Robinson), 6-3, 6-1.
L. List and A. List of Robinson finished second. The pair won the opener on default, then blanked Regan Shumway-Lani Butler (Mattoon), 6-0, 6-0 before downing Lexi Will-Olivia Hemmen (T-town), 6-2, 6-2 and lost to Probst-Hemmen (T-town), 6-3, 6-1.
In the third place doubles, Lexi Will and Olivia Hemmen defeated G. Kroenlein-E. Wendling (Effingham), 6-0, 6-1 then beating Grace Karolewicz and L. Schmidt of St. Anthony), 6-3, 6-2. They won over L. List-A. List of Robinson, 6-2, 6-2 before beating Lydia Kull-Aila Woomer, 7-6, 6-2.
Lydia Kull and Aila Woomer finished fourth. The pair defeated Izzy Hakman-M. Brown of St. Anthony, 6-3, 6-2 then won over Lily Gregory-Avery Boyer of Mattoon, 6-3, 6-2. They lost to Probst-I. Hemmen of T-town, 6-1, 6-4 and to Will-O. Hemmen of Teutopolis, 7-5, 6-2.
The qualifiers advance to the Class 1A State Tournament this Thursday through Saturday, hosted by Buffalo Grove High School.
