T-town Wins Mt. Vernon Doubles Title, EHS Edges St. A

Teutopolis High School claimed the championship of the Mount Vernon Doubles Tournament.

MOUNT VERNON -- Teutopolis High School captured the championship of the Mount Vernon Doubles Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes finished first over Mount Vernon, Marion and Salem.

T-town's Macy Probst and Isabelle Hemmen claimed first place in the No. 1 doubles flight.

Lexi Will and Olivia Hemmen combined to win the No. 2 doubles flight.

Grace Hoene and Julian Hemmen took the No. 3 doubles championship.

The Wooden Shoes finished out the sweep as Josie Drees and Kacie Habing were winners at No. 4.

 

At Effingham

In a Friday contest between the two Effingham schools, the Hearts edged St. Anthony, 5-4.

In singles play, Emily Kowalke won the No. 1 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 victory while teammate Ali Adams took the No. 2 position, 6-4, 6-0. Grace Karolewicz was a winner at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0.

Effingham's Madison Mapes was a winner at  No. 3, 7-5, 6-1. Izzy Volpi captured the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-1. Gracie Kroenlein took No. 6, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action, Lydia Kull and Aila Woomer were winners at No. 1 for the Hearts, 6-0, 2-6, 10-7.

St. Anthony's Adams and Kowalke combined to win No. 2, 6-0, 6-4.

Mapes and Volpi then claimed No. 3 to win 6-3, 6-3.

No. 4 -- Grace Karolewicz (SA) defeated Aila Woomer (E), 6-2, 6-0

No. 5 -- Izzy Volpi (E) defeated Elizabeth Kabbes (SA), 6-3, 6-1

No. 6 -- Gracie Kroenlein (E) defeated Karli Jones (SA), 6-3, 6-4

Doubles

No. 1 -- Kull-Woomer (E) defeated Karolewicz-Kabbes (SA), 6-0, 2-6 10-7

No. 2 -- Adams-Kowalke (SA) defeated Wendling-Kroenlein (E), 6-0, 6-4
