EHS, St. Anthony, T-town Are Winners

Effingham High School improved its tennis record to 3-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over Mattoon Monday.

The Hearts swept the doubles competition as Isaac Foreman and Jason Wohltman combined to win 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Jared Minor and Wyatt Wohltman won 7-5, 7-5. Parth  Maheshwari and Nick Pellman combined at No. 3 to win 6-0, 6-3.

In singles play, EHS took four of the six matches. Aaron Meyers won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2 while Foreman won 6-4, 6-3. W. Wohltman claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory and Maheshwari was a winner 6-3, 6-0.

The Hearts are back in action today at Olney.

At Effingham

At Newton

St. Anthony handed Newton a 5-2 loss. Cole Buehnerkemper and Frank Esker were easy winners at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, 6-0, 6-0.

Scott Rentfrow claimed his victory, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Jay Niebrugge won the No. 4 singles spot, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Luke Jansen and Alec Niebrugge won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 2 doubles, Newton's L. Snyder/L. Simpson won 7-5, 6-0. The Eagles also claimed the No. 3 doubles as C. Goss and J. Cisney won 4-6, 7-5 (1-0).

St. Anthony is back in action today hosting Paris.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Greenville 7-2 to remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0.

"We had a tough battle tonight but the guys pulled through for a nice win," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "We will be back in action today hosting Newton."

The Shoes took four of the six singles matches as Kyle Brumleve won at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1, Ryan Westendorf at No. 2, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, Andy Mersman at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1 and Mitch Meinhart at No. 6, 6-1, 7-5.

In doubles play, T-town swept. Brumleve and Westendorf combined at No. 1 to win 6-4, 7-5. Mersman and Keith Weber claimed the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Jay Funneman and Karson Pruemer won at No. 3, 6-0, 5-7, 7-6 (3).

In junior varsity action, T-town claimed a 7-0 win to improve to 3-0.
