Effingham St. Anthony tallied an 8-1 high school tennis win over Newton Tuesday.

The Bulldogs swept the doubles competition. Henry Kemme and Aiden Tegeler combined for a win at  No. 1 while Isaac McDonald and Evan Mossman took the second match, both were 6-0, 6-0 scores. In the No. 3 spot, Bryant Mossman and Matt Herzing tallied 6-2, 6-0 wins.

In singles play, St. Anthony claimed five of the six matches.

Kemme was a winner at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2 while E. Mossman won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. McDonald went 6-1, 6-2 to down his opponent while B. Mossman won 6-0, 6-1. Herzing finished out the singles wins by blanking his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

Newton's lone point came at the No. 1 singles when Ben Street was a winner, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).

"All were ready to start competition," said St. Anthony tennis coach Darlene Esker. "The weather was great for tennis, a little cool and not much wind."
