St. A Blanks Mt. Zion, EHS Falls To Olney In Tennis

MOUNT ZION -- The Bulldogs of Effiingham St. Anthony traveled to Mount Zion for a high school tennis match and came home with a 9-0 victory Thursday.

Peyton Sehy and Grace Karolewicz picked up singles victories along with pairing together for a doubles win. Sehy fell in the opener 6-3 in singles but came back to take 6-4, 10-4 wins for the match. Karolewicz downed her opponent in singles, 6-2, 6-1.

The two then paired up to win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.

Caroline McDevitt went 6-0, 6-3 in singles play and then paired with Allison Kowalke at No. 1 doubles to win, 6-0, 6-0.

In other singles matches, Emily Kowalke was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 as was Laura Schmidt at No. 4. Ali Adams won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.

In the No. 3 doubles match, Madelyn Brown combined with Elizabeth Kabbes to win 6-1, 6-3.

Olney came calling and captured an 8-1 victory over Effingham Thursday.

The lone point for the Hearts came at the No. 2 doubles spot as Riley Arend and Madison Mapes combined to win, 7-5, 7-5.
