T-town Wins Tennis Sectional Championship

Teutopolis High School captured the championship of the Effingham St. Anthony Girls Tennis Sectional during the weekend.

The Wooden Shoes tallied 29 points followed by St. Anthony 25, Mount Zion 20, Decatur Eisenhower 10, Mattoon 8, Effingham 4, Shelbyville 4, Charleston 4, Decatur Lutheran 2 and Decatur MacArthur 0.

In singles play, St. Anthony's Emilee Mossman won the title followed by Mara Lebo (Mount Zion), Alli Brumleve (Teutopolis) and Paige Willer (Mount Zion).

T-town's Sidney Brumleve and Lauren Hemmen won the doubles title followed by T-town's Christa Schwinke and Audra Breer, St. Anthony's Kelly Rentfrow and Claire Wortman and Mount Zion's Gabrielle Santos and Ariel Rhoades.

Advancing to State will be T-town's Sidney Brumleve and Lauren Hemmen, Christa Schwinke and Audra Breer in doubles and Alli Brumleve in singles and St. Anthony's Emilee Mossman in singles and Kelly Rentfrow and Claire Wortman in doubles.

At Olney

Newton High School had a first. Singles player Jacelyn Street, a freshman, finished second at the Class 1A Olney Sectional and will advance to state as the first Eagles tennis player to do so.

Flora won the Olney Sectional with 26 points followed by Olney 22, Newton 16, Casey-Westfield 14, Robinson 12, Mount Carmel 10, Centralia 6 and Paris 4. Salem and Vandalia also competed.

Nicole Shan (Olney), Kelsey Krutsinger (Flora) and Sonae Shelton (Flora) advance in singles along with Street.

Casey-Westfield's Elizabeth Eckerty and Ellie Tutewiler, Olney's Audrey Jensen and Logan Kauble, Flora's Kasey Jennings and Bailey Pearce and Flora's Gracy Himelick and Kyrsten Darrough advance in doubles.
