EHS Competes at Titan Invite, Shoes Win C-W Doubles Tourney

CHATHAM -- Effingham High School competed in the Titan Tennis Invitational Saturday. Two doubles teams finished fifth for the Hearts.

Chloe Funneman and Lauryn Douthit took fifth at the No. 1 spot while the team of Kyra Bannister and Skyler Schafer finished fifth at No. 2.

Shania Cornell and Taylor Boyle competed in singles but picked up two defeats each.

At Chatham

No. 1 Singles -- Shania Cornell

Lost to Emma Wieland (Mascoutah), 6-0, 6-0

Lost to Skyy Sumlin (Southeast), 6-4, 4-1 (retired)

No. 2 Singles -- Taylor Boyle

Lost to Kalisa Goertz (Rochester), 6-2, 6-0

Lost to Camryn Smith (Jacksonville), 6-1, 4-1 (retired)

Doubles

No. 1 -- Chloe Funneman/Lauryn Douthit, fifth place

Lost to Anna Lytchkov-Haneen Said (Glenwood), 6-0, 6-2

Defeated Maggie Hanger-Mary Toal (Lincoln), 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 Doubles -- Kyra Bannister/Skyler Schafer, fifth place

Lost to Gabi Davis/Allison Steinkamp (Quincy Notre Dame), 6-3, 6-4

Defeated Julianne Funk-Grace Skelton (Lincoln), 6-4, 6-0

Defeated McKenna Lanter-Emma Cook (Mascoutah), 6-3, 6-0

 

At Casey

Teutopolis High School won each of the four flights to take home the team championship Saturday in the Casey-Westfield Doubles Tournament.

At the No. 1 spot, Sidney Brumleve and Lauren Hemmen combined to capture first. The pair lost their opening match 3-2 but came back with six straight victories for the title.

Audra Breer and Christa Schwinke won all seven of their matches, the first three 4-1 and the next four 5-0.

In the No. 3 doubles spot, Julia Hardiek and Nicole Deters tallied four 5-0 victories, won 4-1 and took the No. four match 3-2.

Alli Brumleve and Diana Mossman finished out with three close 3-2 matches, won 4-1 and then took three of the matches 5-0.

Teutopolis won the team title with 117 points followed by Flora 108, Newton 78, Mount Zion 69, Robinson 65, Casey-Westfield 63, Charleston 42 and Paris 18.
