EHS, St. Anthony, T-town Nab Tennis Victories

Effingham High School played host to Charleston in tennis competition and captured a 7-2 victory Tuesday.

In singles play, the Hearts picked up five of the six. Chloe Funneman, Lauryn Douthit, Kyra Bannister, Skyler Schafer and Taylor Boyle were all winners.

In doubles play, the Hearts took the top two spots as Funneman and Douthit combined to win 6-1, 6-1 while Bannister and Schafer went 7-5, 6-2.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Chloe Funneman (E) defeated Megan Fisher (C), 6-1, 6-2

No. 2 -- Lauryn Douthit (E) defeated Adia Goddard (C), 6-0, 6-0

No. 3 -- Kyra Bannister (E) defeated Nissa Larson (C), 2-6, 6-0, 10-8

No. 4 -- Skyler Schafer (E) defeated Bella Sibenaller (C), 6-2, 6-3

No. 5 -- Rachel Thomas (C) defeated Shania Cornell (E), 6-2, 6-3

No. 6 -- Taylor Boyle (E) defeated Laurel Swenson (C), 6-4, 6-4

Doubles

No. 1 -- Funneman-Douthit (E) defeated Fisher-Goddard (C), 6-1, 6-1

No. 2 -- Bannister-Schafer (E) defeated Larson-Sibenaller (C), 7-5, 6-2

No. 3 -- Thomas-Swenson (C) defeated Emily Kelly-Krystine Blackwell (E), 6-0, 6-1

Exhibition -- Shania Cornell-Taylor Boyle (E) defeated Alexis Orlin-Abby Geisler (C), 8-5

 

At Hillsboro

Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Hillsboro and blanked the Hiltoppers 9-0.

"All good matches," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker.

Emilee Mossman, Kelly Rentfrow, Claire Wortman, Megan Hodge, Madison McWhorter and Mary Claire Wegman all nabbed singles victories.

In doubles play, Rentfrow and Wortman won 8-2 while McWhorter and Wegman went 8-4. Hodge and Maryann Saba took the No. 3 win 8-3.

At Hillsboro

No. 2 -- Kelly Rentfrow (SA) defeated M. Powell (H), 6-2, 6-1

No. 3 -- Claire Wortman (SA) defeated A. Reeves (H), 6-3, 6-3

No. 4 -- Megan Hodge (SA) defeated M. Huber (H), 6-0, 6-3

No. 5 -- Madison McWhorter (SA) defeated M. Eddington (H), 7-5, 6-1

No. 6 -- Mary Claire Wegman (SA) defeated Annie Mattson (H), 6-3, 6-3

No. 1 -- Rentfrow-Wortman (SA) defeated Powell-Reeves (H), 8-2

No. 2 -- McWhorter-Wegman (SA) defeated Talley-Eddington (H), 8-4

No. 3 -- Hodge-Maryann Saba (SA) defeated Huber-Mattson (H), 8-3

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis High School moved its record to 2-0 with an 8-1 victory over Vandalia Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes took five of six singles matches as Katie Lustig, Logan Blankenship, Ali Kingery, Carol Schumacher and Shannon Thoele were winners.

In doubles play, Lustig-Blankenship won at No. 1 doubles 10-1 while Kingery and Schumacher combined for a 10-9 (3) win at No. 2. Thoele-Stead took the No. 3 doubles, 10-4.
