Bulldogs, Shoes Trounce Opponents in Tennis

Effingham St. Anthony High School bounced Robinson 11-1 in girls tennis competition Thursday.

Winning in singles play for the Bulldogs were Emilee Mossman, Kelly Rentfrow, Claire Wortman, Megan Hodge, Madison McWhorter, Catherine Willenberg and Mary Ann Saba.

In doubles play, Rentfrow and Wortman won the No. 1 spot while McWhorter and Wegman took No. 2. No. 3 went to Mossman and Hodge. The final spot was claimed by Makenzie Koenig and Reese Buenker.

"Great weather for tennis," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "They were all good matches."

St. Anthony also took a junior varsity contest 13-4.

No. 1 -- Emilee Mossman (SA) defeated Katie Beals (R), 6-3, 6-0

No. 2 -- Kelly Rentfrow (SA) defeated Abby Siler (R), 6-2, 6-1

No. 3 -- Claire Wortman (SA) defeated Andrea Schaulberg (R), 6-3, 6-4

No. 4 -- Megan Hodge (SA) defeated Emma Goeckner (R), 6-0, 6-0

No. 5 -- Madison McWhorter (SA) defeated Mia Hargis (R), 6-2, 6-2

No. 6 -- Meredith Berty (R) defeated Mary Claire Wegman (SA), 6-3, 1-6, 10-7

No. 7 -- Catherine Willenborg (SA) defeated Morgan Graupmann (R), 6-0, 6-0

No. 8 -- Mary Ann Saba (SA) defeated Alysha Clements (R), 6-0, 6-0

No. 1 -- Rentfrow-Wortman (SA) defeated Beals-Siler (R), 6-3, 6-1

No. 2 -- McWhorter/Wegman (SA) defeated Hargis-Berty (R), 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8

No. 3 -- Mossman-Hodge (SA) defeated Goodman-Graupmann (R), 6-0, 6-0

No. 4 -- Makenzie Koenig-Reese Buenker (SA) defeated Schaulburg-Clements (R), 6-2, 6-1

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Greenville 9-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

In singles play, Christa Schwinke, Lauren Hemmen, Audra Breer, Sidney Brumleve, Julia Hardiek and Nicole Deters were all winners.

In doubles action, Hemmen combined with Brumleve to take the top spot. Schwinke and Breer were partners at No. 2 for the win. Hardiek and Deters took the final spot.
