Several local players are headed to the Girls Tennis State Tournament in Chicagoland next weekend.

Effingham's Lauren Hoekstra won the sectional singles tournament, defeating St. Anthony's D.J. Brummer 6-2, 6-0 for the championship.  Brummer finished second, and the third place match between Elena Breer of Teutopolis and Gaither of Flora was not played due to the illness of one of the players, but both had qualified for State during Friday's play.

So, Hoekstra, Brummer, Breer and Gaither will play at State next weekend.

As far as doubles, Kelsey Shipman and Alex Kauble of Olney defeated Allison Vogt and Cheyenne Lueken of Teutopolis for the championship, 6-1, 6-0, but both doubles teams advance to State.  Anna Utz and Lexie Niebrugge of St. Anthony defeated Sam Eblin and Kylie Amerman of Salem 6-2, 6-0 for third place honors.  Those four teams all head to State next weekend.
