EHS Pulls Out Victory On Senior Night

Effingham High School edged Flora 5-4 to pull out a victory on Senior Night. Four seniors were honored as the Hearts ended the regular season with an 8-4 record.

Seniors are Lauren Hoekstra, Madisson Haake, Kaitlyn Gurley and Gabby Klein.

"We finished the singles tied at 3-3 and then won two of the three doubles matches," said EHS Coach Angela Woods. "The girls played hard and even the matches we lost were very close."

In singles play, Hoekstra was a winner 7-5, 6-2. Haake then claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3. Flora took the next two spots. Effingham's Emma Kull then won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play, Hoekstra and Claudia Vinuela-Ayllon were winners 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1. In the No. 3 spot, Shelby Funneman and Kull won 6-4, 6-1.

The Hearts will be back in action Friday in sectional play at St. Anthony.
