Final Local Players Eliminated at State Tennis Tournament

The last local players have been eliminated from competition in the Illinois Boys Tennis State Tournament.

Effingham High School's duo of Jared Minor and Drake Hill lost their first match 7-6, 6-3, but then won three times on Thursday; by scores of 6-2, 7-5; 4-6, 6-3, (10-6); and 6-1, 6-3.

However, the pair of recent EHS graduates lost their first match of the day Friday, falling 6-3, 6-1 to Tanner Burke and Pat Caruso of LaGrange Lyons. The duo finishes with a 3-2 record at State.

As for the other local players:

Senior Andy Mersman of Teutopolis lost 6-0, 6-1 but then won 6-2, 6-1. Mersman then lost 6-2, 7-6 to be eliminated.

Freshman Kyele Mossman of Teutopolis lost 6-0, 6-1 and then lost 7-5, 6-7, (10-8) to be eliminated.

Senior Aaron Conley of Effingham lost 6-2, 7-5 and then lost 7-5, 6-1 to be eliminated.

In other doubles competition, seniors Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette of Teutopolis won their opening match 6-1, 6-2, but then lost 6-1, 6-0 and then lost 7-6, 4-6, (10-5) to be eliminated.

Seniors Jay Niebrugge and Chris Jones of St. Anthony won their first round match 3-6, 7-6, 6-1, then lost 6-0, 6-2, but then won 6-4, 6-2, before losing 6-2, 6-4 to be eliminated.

Junior Noah Pals and Sophomore Alex Probst of Teutopolis won their opening match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; then lost 6-0, 6-1, but then won 2-6, 7-5, (10-8), before losing 6-3, 6-0 to be eliminated.
