EHS Second at Apollo Conference Tennis Meet

MATTOON -- Mount Zion High School captured the championshp of the Apollo Conference Tennis Meet Saturday. The Braves tallied 28 points followed by Effingham 21, Mattoon 10, Salem 10 and Charleston 7.

Effingham's Jared Minor and Drake Hill captured first place in doubles. The pair beat Mattoon's Woodyard/Camfield, 6-0, 6-0 then downed Mount Zion's Jelasco/Brandom, 6-4, 6-3. EHS then defeated Mount Zion's Hinch/Demirjian, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.

Aaron Conley took second place in singles. Conley beat Mount Zion's Santos, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 in a 3 1/2 hour match. Conley then fell to Mount Zion's Laramie, 6-2, 7-5.

Ashton Hawthorn took fourth in singles. He beat Charleston's Esarey, 6-4, 6-0 then fell to Mount Zion's Larimie, 6-0, 6-4 and Santos, 6-3, 6-3.
