Bulldogs Win Own Tennis Invitational

Effingham St. Anthony tallied 11 points to win its own tennis invitational Saturday. The Bulldogs were followed by Charleston 9, Mattoon 7, Decatur St. Teresa 2 and Shelbyville 0.
Jay Niebrugge and Chris Jones captured first place in the No. 1 doubles. The pair won their opening round 6-3, 6-1 then took the second round 6-3, 6-4. In the final the duo beat a Mattoon pair, 6-0, 6-2.
Ian Harris and Liam Hammer also were champions, claiming the No. 3 doubles. The pair won 6-0, 6-2 in the first round then claimed the finals 6-2, 6-2.
"Jay and Chris won three matches against quality teams," said St. Anthony Coach Joe Reynolds. "Ian and Liam were also the first place team, defeating Charleston and Mattoon respectively. Kyle Hartke and Chandler Martelli were the second place team at the No. 2 doubles position."
