Effingham High School edged Paris 5-4 in tennis competition Thursday to remain unbeaten at 2-0 on the young season.

The Hearts split with the Tigers in singles play. EHS took the top three spots as Aaron Conley won 6-3, 6-0, Drake Hill picked up the win 6-1, 6-1 and Ashton Haythrone won 6-3, 6-0.

EHS came back to take two of the three doubles matches for the victory. Jared Minor and Hill combined to win 6-0, 6-0 while Conley and Haythrone captured the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-2.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Aaron Conley (E) defeated Jacob Graham (P), 6-3, 6-0

No. 2 -- Drake Hill (E) defeated Maxwell Holloway (P), 6-1, 6-1

No. 3 -- Ashton Haythrone (E) defeated Ben Randolph (P), 6-3, 6-0

No. 4 -- Jacob Randolph (P) defeated Matt Linders (E), 6-2, 1-6, 13-11

No. 5 -- Garret Clark (P) defeated Nick Katz (E), 2-6, 6-4, 10-5

No. 6 -- Salem Isaf (P) defeated Nicholas Beck (E), 6-2, 6-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- Jared Minor-Hill (E) defeated Holloway-Randolph (P), 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 -- Conley-Haythrone (E) defeated Graham-Peyton Abernathy (P), 6-2, 6-2

No. 3 -- Randolph-Kayin Lawson (P) defeated Linders-Katz (E), 6-4, 6-2

 

At Mount Zion

Teutopolis' junior varsity squad fell to Mount Zion 5-4 in action Thursday.

Logan Waldhoff and Seth Probst were the two winners in singles play. Devin Sabo-Max Ruholl won at the top doubles spot while Waldhoff paired with Probst to win at No. 2.

The Wooden Shoes drop to 2-1 on the season.
