Bulldogs, Shoes Claim Tennis Victories

HILLSBORO -- The Bulldogs of Effingham St. Anthony pushed above the .500 mark in the early tennis season by beating Hillsboro 7-2 Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had an easy time in singles play. Jay Niebrugge and Liam Hammer went 10-0 at the No. 1 and No. 6 spots. Chris Jones won 10-4 at No. 2 while teammates Ian Harris, Chandler Martelli and Kyle Hartke all claimed their matches 10-2.

In doubles play, Hillsboroo won the top spot 8-5 and took the third position 8-3. The Bulldogs claimed No. 2 as Martelli and Hartke were 8-0 winners.

St. Anthony is now 2-1 on the season and will be back in action Friday at the Centralia Doubles Invitational.

At Hillsboro

Singles

No. 1 -- Jay Niebrugge (SA) defeated Seth Watson (H), 10-0

No. 2 -- Chris Jones (SA) defeated Chad Sharp (H), 10-4

No. 3 -- Ian Harris (SA) defeated Shane Green (H), 10-2

No. 4 -- Chandler Martelli (SA) defeated Evan Lynch (H), 10-2

No. 5 -- Kyle Hartke (SA) defeated Aaron Lessure (H), 10-2

No. 6 -- Liam Hammer (SA) defeated Cage Barnes (H), 10-0

No. 1 -- Watson-Sharp (H) defeated Donovan Hammer-Harris (SA), 8-5

No. 2 -- Martelli-Hartke (SA) defeated Green-Lynch (H), 8-0

No. 3 -- Lessure-Barnes (H) defeated Ollie Kingery-Liam Hammer (SA), 8-3

 

At Salem

Teutopolis blanked the homestanding Wildcats of Salem 7-0. The match was played with four singles and three doubles.

In singles play, T-town's Andy Mersman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner. Kyele Mossman blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Noah Pals took No. 3, 6-2, 6-1 while Alex Meinhart was a 6-1, 6-1 winner.

In doubles play, the Shoes swept through easily. Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette won 6-0, 6-2 while Pals and Alex Probst combined to win 6-0, 6-4. Joseph Esker and Mossman went 6-0, 6-0.

At Salem
