St. A Competes At Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School competed in the Bloomington Purple and Gold Tennis Invitational Saturday.

D.J. Brummer and Jenny Walters competed at the No. 2 doubles and finished fifth. Lexie Niebrugge competed at the No. 4 singles and also finished fifth.

St. Joseph, Mo. edged Belleville West for the team championship.

No. 1 Doubles -- Anna Utz and Lexie Niebrugge

Beat Frieson/Gibson (Twin City); lost to Kuhl/Kuhl (Decatur St. Teresa), lost to Lewis/Lewis (Danville)

No. 2 Doubles -- D.J. Brummer and Jenny Walters

Lost to Helton/Hyde (St. Joseph); beat Korff/Niersbach (Hersey), Latif/White (Springfield), Cross/Santerelli (Sacred Heart-Griffin). Finished Fifth.

No. 3 Doubles -- Anna Schutzbach and Morgan Gardewine

Beat Bobytxke/Hill (Bloomington), lost to Grabowski/Raoch (Libertyville), Koe/Su (Normal U-High)

No. 1 Singles -- D.J. Brummer

Lost to Su (Normal U-High), Glenhorn (Springfield)

No. 2 Singles -- Jenny Walters

Lost to Kuhle (Decatur St. Teresa), beat Ray (Moline), lost to Lee (Normal West)

No. 3 Singles -- Anna Utz

Beat Tacud (Decatur St. Teresa), lost to Bisig (St. Joseph), Barnhill (Normal West)

No. 4 Singles -- Lexie Niebrugge

Beat Green (Normal Community), lost to Lessner (Homewood Flossmor), beat Koe (Normal U-High), Johnson (Moline). Finished Fifth.

No. 5 Singles -- Anna Schutzbach
