Hearts, Bulldogs Fall In Tennis Competition

FLORA -- Effingham High School finished regular season play with an 8-1 loss to Flora in tennis action Tuesday.

The lone victory for the Hearts came at the No. 5 singles as Lauryn Douthit defeated Jerrilen Leib, 7-5, 6-1.

"This was an emotional night for a lot of girls as it was their final match for EHS," said Coach Erik Williamson. "We do have sectionals Friday and Saturday but there is something special about this group as they all are able to play together and all pull for each other.

"It has truly been my honor and pleasure to coach these seniors for the last three years and I am looking forward to what the future has for the underclassmen."

At Mattoon

Effingham St. Anthony dropped a 7-2 match to Mattoon Tuesday to finish regular season with a 10-3 record.

The Bulldogs tallied two points, one in singles play as Kelly Rentfrow won at the No. 2 spot over Rachel Ervin, 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles action, St. Anthony's Claire Wortman and Megan Hodge were winners at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4. The Bulldogs will compete in the sectional Friday.

St. Anthony's JV beat Mattoon 3-1.
