Shoes Nab Tennis Victory, EHS Drops Match To C-W

Effingham High School dropped a tennis match to Casey-Westfield Thursday, 6-3.

The Hearts picked up two singles victories as Emma Kull won at the No. 1 spot over Victoria Cox, 6-0, 6-1 and Lauryn Douthit downed Niki Brandenburg at No. 5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Kull combined with Megan Allen to win the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

"We head to Charleston Friday afternoon for the first round of the Apollo Conference Tournament," said EHS Coach Erik Williamson. "Then we'll be back to finish it Saturday."

Singles

No. 1 -- Emma Kull (E) defeated Victoria Cox (CW), 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 -- Hannah Littlejohn (CW) defeated Chloe Funneman (E), 6-3, 6-1

No. 3 -- Ellie Tutewiler, (CW) defeated Kyra Bannister (E), 6-3, 6-0

No. 4 -- Ashley Sherwood (CW) defeated Megan Allen (E), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4

No. 5 -- Lauryn Douthit (E) defeated Niki Brandenberg (CW), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

No. 6 -- Elizabeth Ecker (CW) defeated Skyler Schafer (E), 6-1, 6-3

Doubles

No. 1 -- Kull/Allen (E) defeated Cox/Brandenberg (CW), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4

No. 2 -- Sherwood/Lexi Black (CW) defeated Funneman/Douthit (E), 6-3, 6-4

No. 3 -- No names listed (CW) defeated Bannister/Schafer, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3

 

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis pushed their record to 10-0 by downing Charleston 7-2 Thursday.

T-town nabbed four of the six singles and all three doubles matches. In singles play, Christa Schwinke went three sets to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sidney Brumleve won 7-6(8), 6-2 while Audra Breer claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory. Molly Smith had an easy time at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Brumleve and Breer went 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1. Lauren Hemmen and Smith were 6-3, 6-2 winners. Kaitlin Deters and Schwinke took the  No. 3 spot, 6-3, 7-5.

At Teutopolis
