T-town Claims C-W Doubles Title, St. A Edges Olney, EHS at Invite

CASEY -- Teutopolis High School claimed the championship of the Casey-Westfield Doubles Tournament Saturday. The Wooden Shoes tallied 148 points followed by Flora 128, Charleston 127, Robinson 110, Mount Zion 101, Casey-Westfield 99, Newton 56 and Paris 15.

Audra Breer and Sidney Brumleve nabbed the championship at the No. 2 doubles with 40 points. Nicole Deters and Julia Hardiek were also champions at the No. 4 doubles with 41 points.

Kaitlin Deters and Christa Schwinke took second place at the No. 1 doubles with 34 points. Lauren Hemmen and Molly Smith were second place finishers at the No. 3 doubles with 33 points.

At Chatham

Effingham competed in the Chatham Glenwood Titan Invitational Saturday where there were two flights of singles and two flights of doubles.

Kyra Bannister finished in sixth place at the No. 1 singles while Skyler Schafer took fourth place at the No. 2 singles.

In doubles, Emma Kull and Megan Allen finished fourth at No. 1 while Chloe Funneman and Lauryn Douthit took second. Funneman and Douthit won their first round, 6-2, 6-1 then won 6-0 but were down 5-1 in the second set to come back and win 7-5. They lost in the championship match 0-6, 6-3 then went out 10-3 in a third set tiebreaker.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony hosted Olney and pulled out a 5-4 victory in Saturday competition.

The Bulldogs took four of the six singles. Kelly Rentfrow won 6-4, 7-5 while Megan Hodge was a winner 7-5, 6-2. Mary Claire Wegman lost her opener 6-3 but came back 6-2, 10-1. Madison McWhorter took the sixth spot 3-0, default.

In doubles play, St. Anthony claimed the No. 3 spot as Wortman and Hodge won 6-1, 6-1 for the match.

In junior varsity play, St. Anthony won 4-0.
