EHS, St. Anthony Blank Opponents

Effingham and St. Anthony picked up 9-0 victories in tennis competition Tuesday.
Effingham 9, Vandalia 0
Effingham swept easily through sets against Vandalia. Lauren Hoekstra and Claudia Vinuela were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 1 and No. 3. Madisson Haake took the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-0 while Kaitlyn Gurley claimed the win at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. Shelby Funneman scored a 6-0, 6-2 win and Emma Kull finished out the scoring at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, Haake and Gurley partnered at No. 1 while Gabby Klein and Bethany Vail were partners at No. 3. Both duos won 10-3. Funneman and Kull were 10-6 winners at No. 2.
"Our second sweep in a row," said EHS Coach Angela Wood. "We have momentum on our side going into our season. our singles are strong and our doubles are coming along nicely."

The Bulldogs kept Paris unsettled in a 9-0 win. In singles play, D.J. Brummer took the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-2. Jenny Walters and Anna Utz both blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 3. Lexie Niebrugge won 6-2, 6-0 while Morgan Gardewine claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win. Anna Schutzbach claimed the final spot, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, Utz-Niebrugge and Brummer-Walter combined to blank their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 3 spot went to Gardewine-Schutzbach , 6-0, 6-4.
In junior varsity play, St. Anthonyw as a 5-0 winner.
