T-town Downs EHS, Bulldogs Fall To Highland

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School handed Effingham an 8-1 tennis loss Tuesday evening.

The lone win for the Hearts came at the No. 4 singles as Drake Hill went 7-6, 6-2.

T-town took the top two singles spots as Andy Mersman was a winner 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Mitch Meinhart also went three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Jacob Mette then won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1 while Christian Deters blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Joseph Esker finished out at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, the Wooden Shoes swept. Mersman and Nick Pals won 6-4, 7-6(6). Trevor Lee and Mette won 6-3, 7-5. Meinhart and Noah Pals went 6-0, 6-0. T-town improves to 11-0 on the season.

"This was a much closer, more exciting match than the score shows," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "Effingham pushed us hard but the boys toughened when they needed to do so. It was a good match."

Teutopolis also blanked Effingham in the junior varsity contest, 7-0.

At St. Anthony

Highland came calling and claimed a 6-3 win over Effingham St. Anthony.

The Bulldogs got one point in singles play as Ian Harris won at No. 3, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

In doubles, Jay Niebrugge and Alec Niebrugge won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Andy Saba and Tommy Schottman took a 6-3, 6-1 win.

The Bulldogs drop to 8-2 on the season and will host an invitational Saturday.

At St. Anthony
