Bulldogs Edge Tigers, Eagles Win In Softball

Effingham St. Anthony rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs to pull out a 12-11 win over Richland County, Olney in high school softball action Tuesday.

The Tigers held a 2-0 lead in the first, pushed that to 3-0 in the second and scored six more runs in the top of the third.

But the Bulldogs opened their scoring with three in the third, three more in the fourth and two in the fifth to trail 11-8. That's where the scoring ended until the bottom of the seventh.

St. Anthony rallied with four runs for the win.

The Bulldogs banged out 15 hits in the contest while Richland County had seven.

Julia Schultz finished with a double, home run and three RBI for the Bulldogs while Ava Walton had three singles, Adysen Rios a single, double and two RBI, Ava Faber a single and double, Nancy Ruholl two singles and two RBI, Lilly Gannaway a single and two RBI and Ella Johnson a single and an RBI.

Ruholl opened the game on the mound and was relieved in the third by Camille Wines. Wines went 4.2 innings for the victory, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks.

At Mattoon

Newton remained unbeaten at 5-0 with an 8-2 win over Mattoon in Tuesday action.

The Eagles went on a hitting spree, finishing with 13 for the contest. Addy O'Dell had two singles, a double and drove in a run while Audrie Reich and Avery Mulvey added two doubles and two RBI each, Allie Stanley had a double and triple, Bailee Frichtl a single, double and an RBI and Camryn Martin two singles and two RBI.

The two teams played to a 1-1 opening inning tie. Newton then broke free with a three-run third, added on two in the fourth and tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh.

Collins finished with the win on the mound, giving up two runs on nine hits, no walks while striking out two.

Mattoon's Aylexis Otto hit a solo homer.

At Greenville

Greenville took the first inning lead and went on for a 10-2 victory over South Central Tuesday.

Greenville finished with nine hits led by Ramzi Stefanisin with a triple, home run and three RBI.

South Central had seven hits led by Kaitlyn Swift with three singles and an RBI and Maddie Peddicord with a single, double and an RBI.

Greenville improved to 5-1 on the season.
