St. Anthony, Dieterich Win Softball Openers

Effingham St. Anthony opened its high school softball season with a 17-2 victory over Neoga Monday.

Nancy Ruholl threw a four-hitter, giving up four walks and striking out eight in the win on the mound.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs banged out 14 hits in the contest and was aided by five Neoga errors.

Lilly Gannaway led in hitting with two singles, a double and four RBI while J. Schultz added two singles and four RBI. Camille Wines finished with a single, double and an RBI and Ella Johnson a double and two RBI. Ady Rios had two singles and two RBI and Ava Walton added two singles and an RBI.

Neoga was led by A. Kepp, J. Brandenburg and K. Westerdott with a double each. H. Propst added a single and an RBI.

At Toledo

Dieterich blanked Cumberland, 11-0 in five innings Monday.

The Maroons edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then put together a seven-run fourth and finished with two runs in the fifth.

Dieterich tallied 11 hits in the contest. Brittney Niemerg led the way with a double, triple and an RBI. Callie Faller added a single, double and an RBI. A. Boerngen finished with a double and two RBI while Ella Kreke and L. Wohltman added two singles and two RBI each. K. Michl finished with a double.

Cumberland had two hits, singles by A. Tolen and A. HImes.

Niemerg threw a two-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts in the five innings.

At Fairfield

Fairfield played host to North Clay and sent the Cardinals home with a 15-0 loss Monday.

North Clay is back in action today against Richland County, Olney at 4:30 p.m.
