Cumberland Moves Into Championship Game

EAST PEORIA -- Cumberland High School will play for the state championship in Class 1A softball after winning Friday at East Peoria.

The Pirates handed Goreville an 8-4 loss. Olivia Titus knocked out a three-run homer in the sixth inning as the Pirates tallied four runs to take the lead. Katie Poe, celebrating her birthday, had two hits.

Kaylee Carlen picked up the pitching win to improve her record to 10-6. The Pirates are now 19-10 overall.

Cumberland will face Milledgeville, a 10-3 winner over Glasford Illini Bluffs, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday for the state championship. Goreville and Glasford Illini Bluffs will square off at 10 a.m. for third place.

In 2A softball semifinal action later Friday...

Tremont 6, Peru St. Bede 3

Kankakee Bishop McNamara 3, Nashville 2

Saturday--Peru St. Bede vs. Nashville for third place at 3pm...Tremont vs. Bishop Mac at 5:30pm for the championship
