Effingham's Season Comes To An End In Regional

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School saw its season come to an end in the Class 3A Taylorville Softball Regional Monday.

The Hearts fell to Charleston 8-3. EHS took a 2-1 first inning lead and held that until the third when the Trojans tallied two runs. EHS tied the score in the top of the sixth but Charleston came back in the bottom of the frame with five runs to put the game away.

There was a one-hour and 14 minute lightning and rain delay in the first inning.

Charleston's Stewart struck out the side in the top of the seventh to end the contest.

Kronewitter picked up the pitching loss. EHS had four hits in the game led by Brandy Pontious with a double and an RBI. The Hearts finish the season with a 17-16 record.

Charleston (15-13) advances to face top-seeded and No. 4 ranked Mattoon today at 4:30 p.m.
