Junior High Softball Regionals -- Sept. 10

Effingham St. Anthony and South Central advanced to the championship game of the Class 1A St. Anthony Softball Regional with victories Saturday.

South Central won the opener over North Clay (Louisville), 7-1. South Central took a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on four in the second, one in the third and one more in the sixth.

The winners had eight hits led by Maddie Peddicord with a double, home run and an RBI, Brianna Buchanan with a double and two RBI and Jamalyn Logan with three singles and two RBI.

Peddicord threw a two-hitter with three walks and 16 strikeouts.

North Clay was led by Ruesken with a double and Romack with a single.

South Central is now 17-5 on the season.

In the second contest, St. Anthony defeated Ramsey 18-5 in five innings.

The Bullpups banged out 14 hits in the contest while Ramsey committed eight errors.

Cali Myers threw a six-hitter with two walks and one strikeout.

Julia Schultz had two singles, a double, triple and drove in four runs. Sadie Vineyard had three singles and two RBI while Gianna Frisbie had three singles and three RBI, Claire Kinkelaar two singles and two RBI and Sophia Emmerich with a single and three RBI.

South Central and St. Anthony will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Hutsonville Sectional Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of the Hutsonville Regional, either Dieterich or Hutsonville.

Class 1A Hutsonville Regional

Hutsonville and Dieterich will meet for the championship of this regional after victories Saturday.

Hutsonville won over Neoga, 12-2.

Dieterich then handed Sigel St. Michael a 9-1 loss.

The two teams meet Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the regional title and the right to advance to the Hutsonville Sectional Saturday at 11 a.m.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis snagged  a late lead and defeated Altamont 10-7 to advance to the championshp game of its own regional Saturday.

Altamont held a 6-3 lead after two innings. T-town came back in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 6-6. Altamont moved ahead 7-6 in the fourth before the Wooden Shoes had a three-run fifth when Kylie Borries singled, scoring two runs.

Borries started the game for the Shoes and went one inning before Jersey Gaddis went the next six for the win on the mound.

T-town had 14 hits led by Gaddis and Kera Hartke with three singles and two RBI each. Chloe Hoene had two singles and two RBI, Brooke Thoele a single and triple and Clara Mette two singles and an RBI.

Altamont was led by Laila Hankins with a single, double and four RBI, Sophie Long with a single and double, Ada Roberts with three singles and Ella Nelson with two singles.

Jasper County blanked Lawrenceville Parkview, 5-0 in the opening contest.

Jasper County will meet Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the St. Elmo Sectonal Saturday against the winner of the Casey-Westfield Regional at 11 a.m.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Casey-Westfield handed Arthur an 8-0 loss in the first game Saturday at its own regional.

In the second contest, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Marshall, 3-2.

Casey-Westfield meets Windsor/Stew-Stras at 4 :30 p.m. Tuesday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the St. Elmo Sectonal Saturday against the winner of the Teutopolis Regional at 11 a.m.

 

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham came up with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory over Tolono Unity Saturday.

The Mustangs held a 3-0 first inning lead and led 4-3 after five. Tolono Unity tied in the sixth and the game went two extra innings before the Mustangs won.

Effingham nad 11 hits led by Amelia Koester with two singles and two RBI, Keagyn Koenig and Aubrey Poe with two singles and an RBI each and Gieah Schlanser and Maci Hayes with two singles each.

Layla McBride was the winner on the mound going all eight innings allowing four runs on seven hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

In the opening contest, Charleston easily handled Monticello, 10-0.

Effingham and Charleston meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Champaign Edison Sectional Saturday at 10 a.m.against the winner of the Champaign Edison Regional either Champaign Edison or Mahomet-Seymour.
