Effingham St. Anthony stepped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 22-8 win over Mulberry Grove in junior high softball action Monday.

The Bullpups took a 9-0 first inning lead and that was the game. St. Anthony had 16 hits in the contest. Emeline Wines had a single, home run and three RBI while Claire Kinkelaar had two singles, a triple and four RBI. Sadie Vineyard chipped in with three singles and drove in four runs. Julia Schultz added two singles and two RBI while Alexa Wagner had a double and an RBI and Myra Christie two singles and an RBI.

Aubrey Denning went the five innings on the mound, allowing eight runs on seven hits, one walk and striking out six.

St. Anthony improves to 5-3 on the season.

At Effingham

Effingham moved out to a 4-0 first inning lead then had an 11-run second to take a 15-0 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

Effingham's pitcher threw a no-hitter and the Mustangs had six hits in the contest.

The information was reported by Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City with no names for the Effingham players listed.

 

At Altamont

Altamont came through with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to capture a 9-6 win over Shelbyville Moulton Monday.

Moulton held a 2-0 lead going into the third inning but Altamont knotted the score and moved ahead with two in the fourth. Shelbyville tied in the top of the fifth but Altamont tallied two to move ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Once again Shelbyville tied the score at 6-6 in the top of the sixth. Altamont then came through with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held Shelbyville scoreless in the seventh for the victory.

Altamont had six hits led by Ella Nelson with a triple and an RBI while Kennedi Schultz and Haley Arend added a single and two RBI each. Justyce Higgs and Jocelyn Pearcy contributed a single and an RBI each.

Sophie Long was the pitching winner going all seven innings, allowing six runs on five hits, three walks while striking out 10.

At Altamont

At Kinmundy

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came calling and blanked South Central, 8-0 in National Trail Conference play Monday.

WSS held a 2-0 lead in the second inning then tacked on four in the third and single runs in the fifth and seventh.

Hayes threw a four-hitter for the victory on the mound.

Johnson had a single, two triples and an RBI while Wascher had three singles and Wittenberg had two singles and an RBI. Vonderheide had a single and drove in two.

South Central was led by Jamalyn Logan with two singles.

South Central dropped to 1-2 in the conference, 4-4 overall and is back in action Wednesday against North Clay.
