The junior high school softball season got underway Saturday.

Effingham St. Anthony competed in the Oblong Round Robin. The Bullpups split in the tourney.

St. Anthony pounded Oblong, 23-4 in three innings.

The Bullpups had 10 hits in the contest led by Emeline Wines with two singles, a triple and three RBI, Sadie Vineyard with two singles and three RBI and Gianna Frisbie with two singles and two RBI.

Oblong committed nine errors and its pitchers gave up 11 walks.

Jasper County then claimed a 10-2 victory over the Bullpups.

Jasper County took a 3-0 lead in the second, tacked on four in the third and three in the fourth.

Both teams had four hits. Jasper County was led by Herman and Flowers with a single and two RBI each.

St. Anthony was led by Wines with a triple. Lily Hardiek had a single and an RBI and Avery Henning added an RBI.

Ghast was the winning pitcher for Jasper County, giving up two runs on four hits, one walk while striking out nine.

At Altamont

Altamont hosted a round robin tournament Saturday.

Altamont outlasted Villa Grove by an 18-11 count. The two teams were tied at 2-2 after two innings. Villa Grove stepped ahead with an eight-run third for a 10-6 lead. But Altamont came back with a 12-4 fourth for the victory.

Altamont had eight hits led by Kennedi Schultz with three singles, an RBI, Jocelyn Pearcy with two singles and Laila Hankins and Ella Nelson with a double and an RBI each.

Altamont then fell to Paris Mayo by a 14-4 count in five innings.

Mayo took a 5-3 opening inning lead and led 8-3 in the second and had a four-run third with single runs in the fourth and fifth.

Altamont had seven hits led by Ada Roberts with two singles and Hankins and Schultz with two singles and an RBI each.

At Kinmundy

South Central won its own round robin tournament Saturday.

South Central defeated Ramsey by a 21-6 count. The score stood at 7-6 in the top of the fourth before South Central broke loose with 14 runs in the bottom of the inning.

The winners had 12 hits led by Maddie Peddicord with a single, double and two RBI, Addy Ruholl with three singles and three RBI, Brianna Buchanan with two singles and three RBI, Jamalyn Logan with a double and two RBI, Annie Ruholl with a single, double and three RBI and Baylee Brown with a single and two RBI.

In the second game, Dieterich blanked Ramsey 10-0.

South Central then won the round robin with a 7-0 victory over Dieterich. South Central tallied two in the first and five in the second.

Buchanan had two doubles and drove in three runs while Logan had a single and two RBI and Peddicord two singles.

Dieterich was led by Michl and Boerngen with a single each.

South Central returns to action today at Dieterich.
