EHS Picks up Apollo Conference DH Victory, Altamont Wins NTC Game

Effingham High School claimed an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader over Salem Monday evening.
The Hearts won the opener 10-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule. The Hearts had 13 hits in the game and were aided by four Salem errors.
Ciara Kronewitter had a single, two doubles and drove in three runs for the Hearts. Kaylee Tonn and Kelly Utz had a single and a double each. Utz had two RBI. Shelby Nunamaker had three singles and an RBI and Deedra Myers two singles.
Kronewitter picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.
In the second game, Effingham trailed Salem 3-0 after two innings and 6-0 in the top of the third. But the Hearts came back with three in the bottom of the third and took a 7-6 lead in the fourth. The Wildcats regained the lead with two in the top of the fifth and EHS tied in the bottom of the inning and tallied three in the sixth for the win.
Ke. Utz had two singles, a double and drove in two runs. Brandy Pontious had two doubles and an RBI and Alexis Osborn had a two-run homer.
EHS is back in action today at Mount Vernon with a 5-13 record. The Hearts are 4-6 in the Apollo Conference.

At Altamont
Altamont edged Windsor 2-1 in National Trail Conference play. Windsor led the Indians 1-0 through five and a half innings but Altamont tallied two in the sixth to pull out the victory.
Deidre Ledbetter picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks. She is now 12-2 on the season and the Indians moved to 16-2 overall. Altamont was listed as No. 7 in the final Illinois Coaches Assocaitoin rankings this week.
Windsor, the No. 19 team, drops to 11-9.
