Windsor/Stew-Stras Sees Softball Season End

Casey-Westfield won the Class 1A Casey softball championship Saturday, defeating the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets 9-2.

The Warriors broke out on top early, with a big five-run second inning the key after plating a run in the first inning. The Warriors added three runs in the sixth.

The Hatchets finally scored single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't come all the way back.

Ellie Wittenberg had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run to lead the Hatchets' attack. Ella Kinkelaar, Karlie Bean, Sam Hayes and Alaina Friese each singled. 

Karlie Bean pitched 5-1/3 innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out seven. Sam Hayes got the final two outs, allowing a run on two hits. 

Paige Cutright went the distance for Casey-Westfield, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks while fanning 13 batters.
