The Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets got a big pitching performance from Karlie Bean as they defeated Edwards County 5-0 to advance to the championship of the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Sectional Tuesday. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Bean allowed no base runners until hitting two batters with pitches back-to-back in the fourth inning. She had struck out the first 10 batters.

Bean maintained a no-hitter until the seventh inning when she gave up a clean base hit to left by Edwards County pitcher Ava Greathouse.

Along the way, Bean recorded 15 strikeouts. She had fanned 15 in a 10-inning win in the championship of the Oblong Regional 3-2 on Monday afternoon. That's 30 strikeouts in 17 innings over two days.

Meanwhile, the Hatchets got Bean a lead in the first inning, with Bean helping. Ella Kinkelaar led off the bottom of the first with a single. One out later, a sacrifice fly by Bean brought Kinkelaar home to make it 1-0.

The Hatchets added a run in the second when Ava Richards led off with a single. Sam Hayes forced Richards, but made her way around the bases and scored on a base hit by Alaira Friese.

Windsor/Stew-Stras sealed the deal with a three-run sixth inning featuring a lead-off single by Maddy Pfeiffer. Two outs later, a double by Gabby Vonderheide, a single by Friese, and a single by Natalie Hayes produced the last three runs.

The Hatchets will take on Casey-Westfield Friday at 4:30pm at Casey for the sectional championship. The game can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.
