Teams Advance in NTC Tourney, Area Roundup

St. Anthony took a 1-0 first inning lead but South Central came back to knot the score in the second and take a 3-1 lead in the third. The Bulldogs tallied three in the fourth and one in the sixth for a 5-3 lead. The Cougars came back in the top of the seventh only to fall short in a 5-4 loss in opening round play of the National Trail Conference Tournament Wednesday.

The Cougars outhit St. Anthony 11-9 and had only one error while the Bulldogs had four errors. But St. Anthony got the runs across when they needed to. Meghan Woltman had two doubles for the winners while Paige Koester had two singles and an RBI. Makayla Walsh had a single and drove in three runs. Wohltman picked up the pitching win with nine strikeouts.

South Central was led by A. King with three singles, S. Gunnels, M. Cain and B. Ritter with two singles each. Ritter and Cain had an RBI each.

St. Anthony advances to face Windsor Friday at 4 p.m.

At Altamont

Altamont blanked Neoga 7-0 in National Trail Conference Tournament play.

The Indians stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, tacked on two more in the third and three in the sixth. The Indians banged out four doubles in the contest led by Deidre Ledbetter with a single, double and an RBI, Gabby Alwardt with a single and double, Lauren White and Joleen Norhtrup with a double each.

Ledbetter picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with three walks and 14 strikeouts. Altamont advances to face Stewardson-Strasburg Friday at 4 p.m.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg advanced in the National Trail Conference Tournament with a 6-2 win over Dieterich.

The Comets outhit Dieterich 11-9 and scored two runs in the first, third and sixth innings. Burton had three singles and an RBI while Ferris, Quandt and Walden had two singles each. Ferris drove in two runs and Quandt one.

Dieterich was led by Meinhart with two singles and a double, Vahling with two singles and Garbe with two singles and an RBI.

Stew-Stras advances to a meet Friday with Altamont.

At Strasburg

Windsor picked up its first win in the National Trail Conference Tournament by downing St. Elmo/Brownstown 5-0.

St. Elmo/Brownstown outhit Windsor 5-4 but committed five errors. Windsor took a 2-0 lead in the third and never looked back. Floyd pitched a five-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Maxey, Austin and Feezel with one hit each. The Blue Devils will face St. Anthony at 4 p.m. Friday.

At Teutopolis

Kadi Borries threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Teutopolis handed Newton an 8-3 loss Wednesday.

T-town took a 3-0 first inning lead but Newton pulled within 3-2 in the third. The Wooden Shoes then had a four-run fifth. K. Borries had a single, triple and an RBI while Anni Borries had a double, triple and an RBI. Cowman chipped in with two singles and an RBI and A. Apke had two RBI.

T-town is now 13-4 on the season.
