EHS Drops Doubleheader, St. A Edges Windsor; Area Roundup

MOUNT ZION -- The Effingham High School softball team dropped a doubleheader to Mount Zion Tuesday.

The Hearts fell in the opener 5-4 as Mount Zion came from behind with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the victory. The Hearts took a 2-0 lead in the fourth. The Braves came back with a single in the sixth and the tying run in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

The Hearts led 4-2 in the top of the eighth but Mount Zion tallied three runs in the bottom of the frame. EHS had six hits in the contest led by Kaylee Tonn with a single, home run and three RBI and Deedra Myers with a double.

In the second game, Mount Zion stepped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and went on for 19-4 win in five innings via the 10-run rule.

EHS had seven hits in the game led by Tonn with a single, double and an RBI and Kelli Utz with two singles and an RBI. EHS drops to 0-6 in the Apollo Conference, 3-7 overall.

At Windsor

Windsor stepped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and led 6-4 after three. But Effingham St. Anthony steadily came back with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth that proved to be the winner.

The Bulldogs had nine hits in the contest led by Kate Richards, D.J. Brummer and Kristen Schuette with a double each. Schuette and Richards drove in a run apiece while Hunter Niebrugge had a single and two RBI.

Windsor was led by Bell with a single, triple and an RBI, Tabor with a double and two RBI and Kuhl with two singles.
